Melissa began practicing yoga as a New Year's Resolution in 2015. After suffering a neck injury that developed into Gastroparesis, she used yoga to alleviate pain and curb her appetite for competitive cheerleading since she could no longer participate. It only took a few classes until she dove right in and signed up for teacher training her first year in college. She began teaching at the University of North Florida to students and faculty. Fast forward a year later, she was praying for an opportunity to teach underserved populations, and saw a Facebook post about Yoga 4 Change. In that moment she knew this was the start of something life changing! Psalm 83 says to stand up for the weak, for children, and to protect those who are poor and treated badly. Melissa knows Yoga 4 Change embodies this and desires to spend each day furthering the mission of Y4C. Melissa was brought on as Director of Programs for Jacksonville in the Summer of 2018. She is especially drawn to teaching the vulnerable youth population and loves seeing the look on students' faces when they conquer a posture they didn't think they could do.
