Who I Teach:
Those Suffering from Substance Abuse
My name is Jenna. I am certified as a kids yoga instructor through Kidding Around Yoga. I have held a personal practice of yoga and meditation for nearly ten years, which has molded me into the person I am today. My practice continues to inspire and challenge me on a daily basis.
I have completed two training courses with the organization, Mindful Schools. The first course, Mindfulness Fundamentals, focused on the basics of various breathing techniques and self-awareness. The second course was called, Mindfulness Curriculum Training, which taught the science of mindfulness, as well as, techniques used to teach mindfulness to children.
I acquired a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences from the University of Florida in the spring of 2013. Currently, I am employed with Girls Inc., a national nonprofit organization that strives to empower and educate girls through research-based programs. The program I work in is called GirlSMART, which is an after school program that helps to improve literacy skills for girls from kindergarten to third grade. Throughout my work experience with Girls Inc., I have attained training specializing in behavior management, youth development, program implementation, adultism prevention, and educational practices. I am also certified in first aid, CPR, and AED for infants, children, and adults with the American Heart Association.
During my last year in college, I interned as a teacher’s assistant for the Spirited Girls class at PACE Center for girls. I had the opportunity of creating and teaching lesson plans and assisting the students with the lessons and activities. The year prior, I interned at the Repurpose Project, a recycled craft supplies store. I organized and hosted weekly craft workshops for children and helped plan community events. In the recent past, I have volunteered for Girls Rock Camp, the Florida Museum of Natural History, and various local farms.
